Horse Poker Rules

H. O. R. S. E. is a combination of different types of poker played in the same game or tournament. Each round, the type of horse poker which is played, will differ. H.O.R.S.E. stands for Holdem (H), Omaha (O), Razz(R), Seven Card Stud Hi (S) , Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo, Eight or better or Hi/Lo (E).

When individuals are playing H.O.R.S.E., the game will change every round. During H.O.R.S.E. tournaments, the game will change after each round ends or after a set amount of time. The World Series of Poker hosted a H.O.R.S.E. event in 2006. The buy-in was $50,000. The games were rotated after an hour until the last table, which was as No Limit Holdem.

In order to be successful in H.O.R.S.E., you do need to know how to play each of different types of poker games. Here is a quick run down. In Holdem, the two individuals who are on the left side of the dealer will place blind bets. Next, every person is given two cards that are face down. These are known as the hole cards. The player to the left of the dealer can raise, call or fold, their bet. Everyone does the same until the first round of bidding ends.

After the first round, the dealer will deal three cards and face them up on the table. This is called the board or the flop. These cards are also known as the community cards. Players use these three community cards and their two hole cards to come up with the best possible hand.

Next, a fourth card is dealt. This is called fourth street and everyone bets. The final and fifth card, also known as fifth street, is placed face up and one more round of bets will ensue. The individuals that are still in the game will then show their cards. The person with the top hand will win the game and the money. Again, they can combine their hole cards with the community cards to come up with the best hand.

Omaha Holdem is very similar to Texas Holdem. The main difference is that every player is given four hole cards instead of two. Players can take their best cards and combine them with the three community cards to create the best hand. Whoever ends up with the best hand wins.

RAZZ is very similar to seven card stud. The only difference is that the lowest hand wins and not the highest. Seven Card Stud allows the player to come up with their best five card out of seven cards. You can use any of the seven that you have been dealt.

Seven card stud hi/lo is very similar to seven card stud player. The player who has the best five card hand from the seven that he or she was dealt, wins the game. However, if it’s played hi/lo, then the pot is split between the person who has the lowest hand and the person who has the highest hand. Most seven card stud games use eight or better, which means the individual with the lowest hand cannot have a card that is eight or higher.

Again, H.O.R.S.E. is a combination of various types of poker games. To be successful, you must be familiar and adept at all of them.
